Be Careful

Introduction
Be careful!!! The school is extremely impersonal. You are often treated like a number and you have to fight against every other student. The school is EXPENSIVE, and financial aid is minimal. The school wastes money by buying biodegradable take-out containers for the dining halls that leak instead of giving it to students who need it. Also a lot of the money students pay goes to paying for student activities that are ridiculous. They rented a $36K yacht for a night for student program as opposed to paying for almost a year of tuition for a student.

Campus Life and Social Life
There is no campus, that is a well-known fact. Sports are non-existent or terrible. This is the kind of school where people will blow you off on a Friday to study. Oh and dorm life? Forget about it. Almost no one will reach out to you, and some dorms are FAR from the main class location making it very easy to skip class. Academics
Workload is insane and you are always competing against the other people in your class. Expect insane amounts of reading and homework. I know people who spend almost every waking hour in library. Transfers often lose most of their credits and are forced to take extra semesters.

Student Body
I believe I made a snap decision to come to NYU and was blinded by the fact I was in the city. The city rubs off on you and you have to become cold, rude, and self-serving just to survive. People are often wasted or high just to escape the stresses of everyday life. The unfortunately translates into an unusually high number of students seeking therapy for depression and sometimes leads to suicides. A lot of students are "individualists" and wear unusual clothes to stick out. Everyone is obsessed with green/fair trade initiatives to the point that students protested and banned coke products from the school.

In Closing...
Please be careful. I made a mistake by coming to NYU because it was not right for me. It might be right for you but you should really step back and look beyond the city. There is a big difference between NYU and NYC.
