Big School, Big City
IntroductionThe best advice I can give a student considering this school is to realize that there is no campus and the city can take a considerable amount of getting used to. I chose the school because of its film program and opportunities to get involved in the industry during school. Kids who are shy or really particular about their personal space should stay away.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe best of social life is probably the numerous activities that a person can get involved with at school-from plays to the newspaper. But people here can be pretty cold and it's next to impossible to make friends sometimes. Weekends are what you make of them. You have to really find something to do every weekend- social events don't just fall into your lap.
AcademicsThe film department is really good, as is the drama department. Stern school of business is strong because of its location and proximity to big business. In my department, there aren't any TA's who really teach classes and I know that professors in film are required to still be active in the industry. Workload can sneak up on you. Sometimes it seems like it's not that much, but it it accumulates and next thing you know you're up all night doing 5 month's worth of homework.
Student BodyA lot of the kids are from New Jersey or New York, but the student body comes from all around the country. A lot of students are incredibly vain and are mostly into themselves.
In Closing...Freshman year sucks in general and the sink or swim nature of this school makes it really tough.
