IntroductionAdvice: The guys can be vultures; freshie girls, watch out. Since NPU is small, word gets out quick about anything. It's okay if you don't know what political persuasion you want to buy into, there's a lot of learning to be done, especially here. Make sure you venture off-campus. NPU is located in Chicago, one of the best American cities there is, so explore it!
Why I chose: It was small, so my profs would know my name. It has religious affiliation. It's not as if everyone is a bible-carrying (and thumping) preacher, but it's nice to know that you can be in tune with one's spiritual side without scrutiny. The people were nice. Because NP has about 2,000 undergrads, it's very easy to meet everyone and establish a comfortable circle of friends.
Persona non grata: Unfortunately if the big-city life isn't for you, then I'd veture to say the same for NP. Also, if you're expecting constant church revivals and communion, I suggest the cloth for you.
Campus Life and Social LifeIf you're not much of a clubber, NP's great because of all the activities they plan. Dances, ministries (including Friday night for the Homeless population downtown), low-key social gatherings (games in people's rooms, etc.), all in all, NP's pretty nice. Unfortunately, the campus is not Greek, no frats or sororities, but Chicago is home to well-known schools that are. Northwestern, Loyola, DePaul (to name a few) are nearby.
AcademicsI can only talk about what I know. The Philosophy department is wonderful! The class sizes are very small. Out of the 2,000 UGs, there are roughly 15 philosophy majors.
The English department is also wonderful. You will definitely read more than the status quo at NP.
Student BodyNP was created by the Swedish Covenant Church, so a great deal of the students are either Swedish or of that ancestry. Many of them transfer from a school called Covenant Bible College (with locations in Canada, Colorado, Mexico and other places). But do not fear, Chicago is known as one of the most diverse cities, and NP is conveniently located in 60625, otherwise known as the most diverse zip code in America.
In Closing...nope.
