Hustle and bustle at NU
IntroductionI chose NU because it is, first, in the city and I wanted to go to a city school and the other thing was it had a co-op: we work and study at the same time, which is very useful for experience when you graduate. The Co-op program is a program which you work for a semester about 3 semesters in the 5-year program and the school helps you find a co-op, but you can also do it yourself. And most of the co-ops are paid so that’s a good part of it.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe business school is a challenging school, but NU’s business school is probably one of the best schools they have. A little more difficult to get into, but it’s worth it once you get in because they have very good professors and the teachers really care and they’re good classes. Probably about 40 students in each class. If you make an effort for the professor to know your name they definitely will, but if you want to be the kid who sits in the back row and doesn’t speak, you can do that as well. Different teachers have different attendance policies. Students usually go to class on a regular basis. But if you need to miss a class it’s not that big of a problem.
Living in the freshman dorm I think is very important to do as a freshman at NU because it’s a city school and kids are all over the place they’re not in one specific spot all of the time so when you’re in the dorm, you’ll see kids in the cafeteria, you’ll see them in the Marino Center, you’ll see them in the library so it’s good to be with kids…your first year you know, on campus.

AcademicsThe food, there’s two different places to choose from. As far as cafeterias go, Stetson East and Stetson West. They get pretty crowded on Saturday mornings and lunch time and dinner, but if you go in between they’ve got some good selections sometimes. Students usually eat actually across the street at Au Bon Pain, Wallaceton’s, Chicken Lou’s down the street, there are a lot of places to eat around here.
Student BodySports and school spirit is not very big unless the basketball team’s playing a school like Vermont, but other than that, the football field’s a little ways away. So it’s hard to get all the way out there, so school spirit as far as sports goes, not very good.
Greek life, it’s not the biggest thing, but there are some pretty good fraternities and sororities. It’s not Greek or Geek.
Party scene, there are a lot of different options. There are so many schools in Boston so you definitely have a place to go, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Tuesdays. A lot of kids go to Mission Hill for house parties, some fraternity parties, but um since we’re in the city there’s a lot of bars and clubs to go to go to. They close at 2, which is fairly early, but there’s usually somewhere to go after. A lot of people have parties in their apartments, which aren’t very big but still a good time.
In Closing...I feel like any time of student would fit into NU because there’s so many people from everywhere around the world, everywhere around the country. You don’t really see people without any friends because people are very open. You can make friends very easily
