Work hard, play hard
IntroductionNortheastern is an engineering school. Yeah, they have other majors, but there are a lot of activities around here geared towards the engineering undergrad. Students who do well here are very independant and know how to budget their time. Freshman year is only 15 classroom hours a week and you usually get fridays off. You can expect to get TWO hours of homework for every hour of class, so be prepared. Sometimes you can party too hard and neglect your studies.
Campus Life and Social LifeSome majors require you to attend clubs pertaining to your major. Basically, you will be hanging out with the kids who are in your classes. You will study, party, and go to work with the same group of people. Weekends are usually three days long beginning with "thirsty thursday". If they offer a major-specific dorm for your major, apply for it; you'll meet people with the same interests as you.

AcademicsSuprisingly, the core classes (math, science, english) are really easy. The major-specific classes will pile on the homework, but its usually stuff that you don't mind doing. As an engineering major, I enjoy the design projects and autocad homework. The TA's are usually boring and difficult to understand. Recitation is 100 minutes of hell. Pray that your professors use "Blackboard" to post announcements, and check your email daily. As I said, most of the work is done outside of the classroom, so you'll be referring to your buddies for help with homework most of the time.
Student BodyThere are alot of ditsy girls and meatheaded guys here. Try to ignore them and get to know the international students. Most of the people I know here play an instrument. If you're not musically inclined, that's ok because you might find yourself learning guitar in your spare time while you're here. Musical tastes vary dramatically, so don't assume that you can blast your iTunes with the door open. In my experience, people make friends based upon tastes in alcohol and videogame preferences. There are alot of rich kids here, so make sure you get to know the guy with the HD projector and XBOX 360.
In Closing...Greek life is small here, but I like it that way. The handfull of fraternities pretty much control the flow of alcohol for people who are under 21. Once you reach that glorious age, however, Mission Hill becomes the place to be. There are some really great clubs and bars to just hang out at. With all of the stuff around here, it doesn't take long to find a routine that suits your style. It's hard not to have a good time here, and it's also hard not to get good grades. If you wish your parents and/or home life would stop holding you back, Northeastern is a great place to cut loose and sink your teeth into new things.
