Good Old NU

Rating: 2/5 (38 ratings)
Introduction
Northwestern is a great school. You will be sourounded by intelligent, motivated people. Evanston is a great town too. However, the townies will not like you (but business owners will love you). The social scene is perfectly fine, despite what many people say. Join the right greek house and you will have as much or as little social life as you choose. Definately go greek though!

Campus Life and Social Life
Frat parties dominate North Campus, while theater types party on South Campus. Frat parties are not the massive ordeals depicted in movies and occasionally experienced on road trips, though. They feel more like a house party, where the booze flows freely, and people kick back and have a good time. There arn't that many bars in Evanston, but there are enough to do the trick.

Academics
The Economics department is bigger than the entire School of Journalism. Even so, it does an amazing job. TA's are often foreign, but do a good job and are accessable to students. The Slavic Studies department is wonderful, and the Physics department is terrible. However, if you are into science, check out ISP (the Intigrated Science Program).

Student Body
Students tend to be from Illinois, California, or the east coast. They are smart, and know it, but arn't arrogant. Academics are important to them, but so is having a good time, and each individual strikes the balance they deem appropriate.

In Closing...
Northwestern is exactly what you make of it. If you want personal relationships with professors, you can have them. If you want to spend all your time quietly studying in your dorm or the library, you can. If you want to preparty in your dorm room before hitting the frats or the the bars (or the theater parties) you can. If you want a tight-knit greek house, or to be a BMOC, you can, or you can stay independent and still have friends and an active social life. NU is an amazing place where you can have whatever kind of experience you want, provided you can put up with the cold wind, and don't mind drinking Busch Light.
