So F*ing Hard!

Rating: 2/5 (55 ratings)
Introduction
I came to Northwestern because i wanted to go to a really "good"/prestigous college and I wanted to stay relatively close to home (only 45 mins away). If you are looking for a school that is party oriented, then i'd say stay away from Northwestern, but if limiting patying to a weekend or so a month is not that big of a deal to you, then you could definitely pull off going here. If you're looking to party, YOU WILL WANT TO INVEST IN A REALLY GOOD FAKE ID THAT HAS YOUR PICTURE BEFORE COMING HERE. It will cost you more than $100 but it will most definitely be worth it.

Campus Life and Social Life
It seems like only 1/3rd of the school goes out, and freshman year, that results in you knowing EVERYONE. As you get older, you meet more new people, but sometimes it seems like you see all the same people out. It is good though, because you end up making A LOT of friends and rolling with multiple social groups, be it your frat/sorority (totally not necessary to join), athletes, or just people from classes or your dorms. While your friends who go to state schools only know approximately 20 people very well and form no close relationships outside of there, you will have way more friends. The parties are decent; freshman year you go to a lot of big frat parties, but that gets tiring as you grow up and the fact that you are a 30 min/$2.00 L-ride or 25$ cab ride to the city makes going out in the city really the only way to go. THIS IS WHY YOU NEED AN ID even before you are 21. The sports teams are really accessable (if you are a jersey chaser), and while, for the most part, they tend to break your heart, you can chose to follow them or not.

Academics
Academically, NORTHWESTERN IS SO HARD; Transferring from another school and transfers to other schools will agree on that point. Our school runs on a quarter system meaing you have 4 classes for 9/10 weeks 3 times a year, meaning 3 sets of midterms, and three sets of finals. IT IS HARD. And everyone is so FREAKIN' competitive, and profs dont hand out A's(like at the Ivys). SO FREAKING HARD.

Student Body
Our student body is composed of lots of wealthy white kids, but at the same time there is a VERY large and prominent Jewish population. Most kids are from either NY, CA, or IL.

In Closing...
I tell my parents they could have saved $45K a year and sent me to U of I, but at the same time, I like knowing basically everyone worth knowing on campus. Having a tight knit group of friends who I love and a city that makes things always fun, even when some NU students disappoint, are the only reasons I've stayed here. The cost of living is ridiculously expensive, and you really will be BROKE afterwards/during school. If you're considering going to NU, maybe it's better to go to a state school, do really well, and then worry about getting into an NU grad school. OH, one more thing, NU hates its undergrads so if you wanna go to Kellog/NU med/law school, go somewhere else first.
