When it Comes to Dating: Frostbite (It's Mental)

Rating: 3/5 (62 ratings)
Introduction
I actually was as Chair Peer the summer of 2003 before my senior year. And like NWU was just like off the chain. I loved everything about this campus, I loved the people that I met on campus. I loved the atmosphere, and we definitely have one of the most beautiful campuses around. And the theatre program here is just ridiculous. So NWU was just my top choice. Here I am.

Everything’s within walking distance, which is one, it’s good because as a college student you are really broke and therefore you do not need to have a car on campus because gas costs money and we don’t have money for gas.

Everything around here is for college student so, I mean Evanston is a little bit expensive, but it’s doable. It’s definitely doable. I don’t even have a job, I pay for things off of my summer earnings and I still go out with my friends like every other weekend into Evanston.

But there’s so much to do on campus that you don’t even really need to go into Evanston, which is a 5-minute walk.

Campus Life and Social Life
I don’t think I’m overloaded with work in those specific areas. Some of the classes that I’m taking that aren’t in theatre and psych department are pretty difficult, but like a said before, it’s doable. You came to NWU, so you should expect to have a workload. It’s definitely worth it though. Like it’s going to pay off in the end.

Theatre here is incredible. It’s fun, the teachers are crazy. I’m serious, the teachers are like kids, they’re like us, like college students, they come to class to have fun, but they also come to class to learn. It’s not just like we’re going to play games everyday.

The psych department is awesome as well. I had an incredible psych professor for my intro to psych class last quarter and I can’t wait to get on to my next psych classes.

There is everything on this campus. I mean absolutely everything. I’m, I guess an activities-aholic, or something because I’m involved in everything. I’m involved in 3 dance groups. I’m currently in production for a show right now a Student Theatre show. And I’m in the only gospel choir on campus, NCE, I’m involved in Blackboard magazine, and I’m a photographer for that. That’s about it for now. I dropped a few other things because it was a bit too much.

Academics
I sort of came in with the mentality that okay, I lived in NJ and I’ve experienced frost bite so I can deal with the cold weather in Chicago so I guess a lot of it’s mental. It’s definitely cold and you do need to bring heavy jackets. You can’t just go walking outside in a tank top or a T-shirt and pants when it’s cold outside. Seriously, it’s not that bad. I love it. I’m a winter baby.

Student Body
There is no dating on this campus. There’s hooking up, there’s talking, whatever you consider talking and there’s relationships which, from what I’ve spoken to people about and from what I’ve witnessed, there aren’t really that many relationships until your junior or senior year. And I mean, you’re lucky if a guy asks you to Norris. Like that is considered a “Date” on campus. And I don’t know how many of my friends have ever been “asked” to Norris. But that’s not what it’s all about. NWU, you came here for the academics and you know for the future, so don’t just focus on the dating y’all. I’m serious because you could go off campus. There are lots of schools around here. You can go off-campus to find dates.

In Closing...
I think that freshman year, you should try and have a roommate because I know a lot of people that have singles their freshman year and they will never get the good experience that comes along with learning how to live with someone like as you’re growing older.

It’s really hard. I’m used to having my own room, everything being really neat, perfect in my own spot and then there’s this extra person that isn’t exactly the neatest person. I mean, my roommate’s not a slob, but you have to learn how to compromise and I would really suggest having a roommate your freshman year.
The Food’s not that bad. I mean, it’s college. So you don’t expect it to be gourmet or anything, but the dining halls here are pretty decent. But you can always come to Norris and they always have better food here. Burritos, pizza, better selection.
