Great Community and Great People
IntroductionI knew I wanted to go to a small school, and I really think I made the right choice. It's great to see faces you know as you walk around campus and to have professors know your name. I really love Oberlin because most people are looking for something more in life than just making a lot of money. People truly want to learn about the world and try to make it a little better. The school is pretty overwhelmingly liberal and occasionally students are unaccepting of more conservative viewpoints.
Campus Life and Social LifeYou won't get the same type of parties here that you would at a big university. Parties are usually just held in someone's house, but they can be a lot of fun. A lot of times we just party in our dorms on weekends.

AcademicsOverall, I've found the professors to be pretty good. Since classes are smaller, you really get a chance to get you know your professor and get extra help from him or her if you need it. I'm a biology major, and the science department here is great. In general, the workload is pretty heavy.
Student BodyStudents are pretty overwhelmingly liberal. Many are from the coasts and the Midwest. Because of the conservatory, there are a great deal of students who are musical or at least have a great appreciation for music. Most students here are very intelligent and friendly, and many are really looking to make a difference in the world.
In Closing...Oberlin has a great community feel to it, and the people here are wonderful. If you're looking for a school that challenging but not overly competitive, Oberlin's a great place. It's also the place for anyone who's interested in working towards political or social change.
