OBU
IntroductionThe best advice I can give to someone considering OBU is come for a visit. The atmosphere is really what makes Bison Hill truly great. The people are incredibly welcoming and you'll know when you get here if this is the place you belong. I chose it because it fit all of my criteria (small class sizes, great profs, good education program, safe, affordable) and when I came for a visit I knew that this was truly where I belonged. If you are into the party scene, you may have a difficult time at OBU. Though there is definitely some of that going on at OBU, it is kept very hush hush and most of the party people end up transferring because they are unhappy.
Campus Life and Social LifeLike I said before, there definitely are parties on campus but unless you are the one throwing the party or know the people throwing the party, you probably don't hear about it until Monday morning. Though we don't have a football team, our basketball games are pretty big events to go to. We also have about 3 annual campus wide "talent shows" that are popular and often have lots of concerts, plays, etc. to attend on the weekends. Sororities/fraternities aren't a big part of campus life at OBU, and are called "social clubs" (with the exception of one national sorority). No greek housing, but depending on the group, you practically live with your brothers/sisters anyway.

AcademicsOur nursing and education departments are probably what we are best known for though all of our programs are exceptional in my opinion. Lots of guys pursue religion/bible/youth ministry majors and girls are either education or nursing for the most part. Professors are amazing, they aren't paid as well as they should be which makes them really quality professors (they are here for the students!). Class sizes are small, the biggest class I ever had was a freshman class of about 30. Most of your degree core classes will be really small (8-10 people) which means you can get a lot of individualized attention. We don't have TA's, the professors are always the ones teaching your class, grading your papers, etc. The workload is moderate depending on your major (though I do have to say that nursing majors have a huge workload).
Student BodyThe student body is perhaps what makes OBU what it is. Overall, the student body is incredibly welcoming and it is almost too easy to make friends here. If you're looking for solid, lifelong friends, consider OBU. We challenge each other and work together to create an amazing campus environment. We have lots of quirky traditions that make student life fun. Everyone knows each other, or at least can recognize everyone. In a small student body it would be difficult NOT to know everyone's business, and that is definitely a major downfall. But on the upside, the student body is a great place to belong.
In Closing...OBU is a great place to be.
