OkState Rocks!
IntroductionOSU is incredibly friendly and relaxed (unlike the other big oklahoma university...wait, i've said too much). It has a great athletic program, awesome workout facilities, waaaay late library hours, free pancakes during finals week, all sorts of free speakers and concerts throughout the year, and and great academics (great honors college, scholarship development, i.e. truman/gates scholars, study abroad opportunities, AWESOME career services, available professors). Stillwater is also very committed to the university; you don't often hear a local complaining about all the "college kids."
Campus Life and Social LifeSports, especially basketball, dominate our school's campus life.
We have the biggest homecoming in the nation, and it's awesome because the frat houses put up enormous house decs that move and talk: pretty freakin cool.
The Strip is also famous if you're looking for a bit more action; kick off the weekend right by starting on Thursday!
this is by no means a suitcase campus, people are definitely here on weekends and there's always something to do (i like going to school-sponsored movies, bingo night, karaoke, free latin dancing lessons, hitting up the colvin center (workout facility), or finding something to do in town.)
AcademicsOSU is definitely a very strong ag. school, but also has other strong departments, all of which are first rate. workload is approprate, and you can find lots of classes taught by tenured professors (even lower-division courses). You do deal with the occasional 300+ person class taught by a person who's english language skills are lacking (or nonexistent... ugh) but you find that everywhere, and it's easy to avoid.
Student BodyWe're a very rural population, and the boys aren't afraid to pull out their wranglers or cowboy boots. You also have the greek system, definitely not as big as a lot of schools (i.e. OU). You can still be cool and be non-greek. A majority of the students are conservative, although you won't find that to be the case among professors (but for the most part they don't push their ideology on you). Don't make us out as a bunch of hicks runnin around plowing fields or living in teepee's though, because there's a great emphasis on diversity on campus. Afro-Am is one of the bigger organizations on campus, and there's a student organization for just about every race, color, or creed. There are also lots of opportunities to learn about different cultures here; yes, even in stillwater, america.
In Closing...Come to OSU! I couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else! The campus is gorgeous and growing, there's more than just traditional dorms to live in for freshmen, and our school spirit runs pretty high around here. It's not too big (~22,000 enrolled) yet there are so many opportunities academically, culturally, and even just socially. Go Pokes!
