One of The Best Schools in VA

Rating: 3.1/5 (63 ratings)
Introduction
If you like diversity and you enjoy the city. Then you should consider ODU. I chose ODU because it is close to the beach, it has a very layed back atmosphere and you can get a quality education. If you don't like living in an urban center or you're very conservative or not open minded, then stay far away from ODU.

Campus Life and Social Life
Umm...ODU is definately not a party school. However, you can always find something to do either on campus or in Norfolk. There are two bars on campus and the university has a lot of social events. Sports at ODU is pretty big. Basketball games in the TED is always something fun to do, and a good way to show school spirit. ODU has over 200 clubs soo there's something for everyone. Everything from a fencing club, to break dancing. If you don't get invovled in anything at ODU, you can definately feel left out, and the university pushes that students get involved. Greek life here is pretty dead. It's there, but it's there and that's about it, it's not a big deal around here. Soccer games are big in the fall on weekends, so there's always something to do here on the weekends, you just gotta look for it.

Academics
The colleges of engineering and sciences are definately the top programs. Bussiness, english, education, international affirs, and nursing are all strong as well. Some professors are amazing, some aren't. Ratemyprofessor is a good idea when selecting classes. However, there are many amazing professors that love what they do, and it is common for undergrads to have research opportunities. It all depends on your major as far as workload. Engineering and science majors have the largest workloads. Most upperlevel classes consist only of large long term assignments.

Student Body
Umm..the school is very diverse. It can be somewhat clicky here, but everyone can find their own group. They just gotta get involved. Most people party in the dorms/apartments or hit up a club for fun.

In Closing...
ODU is a great school in a great location, those that feel bitter about the school just don't know that getting involved and being proactive is vital to the Old Dominion experience.
