Good Ol' "Corn"vallis
IntroductionThe city of Corvallis and Oregon State University are great places to get some prime time studying done. If you're like me, Oregon State is a great school to escape the hectic life of the city and be able to simmer down and balance school and social life. The party scene is a bit redundant here and the drinking scene is more limited than the typical college area (Stores stop selling booze at about 7pm!!!). Overall, Oregon State is a great place to get your job done, as well as have some fun on the weekends, or Thirsty Thursday, whichever you prefer.
Campus Life and Social LifeAs mentioned, the social life of Oregon State is relatively chill. Nothing too dramatic happens here, and the parties are usually cracked down by the local police around 1am. Rarely will you find an all nighter. The campus life here at OSU is great. There's a bazillion clubs to join, and the student government here is amongt the best in the nation. During the weekend, one can make a trip to Newport beach and enjoy the coast, or head up an hour and a half to Portland to enjoy the city life. If you're looking for a place to shop, Corvallis is NOT the city for you. Shopping is limited and the nearest place for decent spending is Salem, about 30 minutes up I-5.

AcademicsNot the best in the land, but by no means short of excellent. Oregon State is best known for it's programs in Oceanography, Botany, and Engineering. All three are top ranked departments, as well as have awesome facilities. In fact, the Kelly Engineering Building was built very recently, and is one of the most high-tech buildings you'll find anywhere (self-sustaining energy, water, etc.). The faculty and staff at OSU are up to par according to most standards, but sometimes getting ahold of them can be a task. Plan on emailing like crazy in case of an emergency.
Student BodyAlthough Oregon State is a pretty chill place, the student body tends to be overall superficial and wannabees!! Everyone in ORegon wishes they were from California (my home state =)). However, being that the girls try to be Cali-Girls, you can expect lots of skin in the summer and spring terms. Any sunny day, chilly or not, will yield some middriffs and cleavage, so guys be ready for some eye candy. Girls, you aren't left out of the loop. You can see a ton of studs working hard at the gym getting ready to pursue you during the mating months!
In Closing...Oregon State is a well-rounded university with decent academics and social scene. As long as you can stand long days of rain and wind, you should be fine. Pack an umbrella and be ready to see more blondes than you ever have before! Go BEAVS!
