Greek Life is Big Here!
IntroductionI think one thing to take into consideration is the fact that there is a large presence of the Greek system at OSU. I personally did not take part in a frat/sorority, but I think that it is a great opportunity to network with fellow students early in your college career.
If you can't handle the rain...stay out of the Northwest. It rains 9 months a year and it can wear down even the hardiest of souls. But, if you like good beer and better "other" things...head to Oregon for some chronic good times.
I chose this school because of its proximity to Portland, Mt. Hood, the Oregon Coast, and all the great lakes and rivers Oregon has to offer. Good place to chill out for 4 or 5 years.
Campus Life and Social LifeHouse parties rule over everything else The bar scene in Corvallis is so-so, but you can always make a 45 minute drive to Eugene and get hammered without the risk of doing something that could tarnish your stellar reputation.
Corvallis police are notorious for giving out DUI's. I personally know over 15 people that were arrested for drinking and driving. Word to the wise...WALK! The town is small; so take that extra 15 minutes to walk and save yourself thousands of dollars in fines. The police take their jobs WAY too seriously...never cutting slack for a person that's 20 years old and wants to have a beer in the company of good friends. My advice: just accept that you'll get an M.I.P. and get tossed no matter what.

AcademicsOf course OSU is known for engineering. But there are all sorts of great programs. However, the advisors are incompetent and it is possible that you might get screwed over if you don't pay close attention to what courses you need to take.
Student BodyMost students are from Oregon. Mostly Portland area...but there are many others from Hawaii, California, and few from elsewhere. There are lots of international students at OSU, my advice is to make friends with them and get yourself a free place to stay when you visit them in their country.
The school is pretty liberal, and sustainability is something that fits into nearly every major. Some people may call us tree-huggers. OSU Beavers like to consider ourselves globally-conscious. Gotta keep an eye out for the world in our plans.
In Closing...Make sure that you participate in a foreign exchange program. It was probably the best experience of my life. I went to Spain, but the University offers programs in dozens of countries on all continents. Classes are great, no matter where you go! DO IT!!!
