big bad penn state

Rating: 5/5 (89 ratings)
Introduction
Going to a big school it is somewhat of an adjustment, especially if you come from a smaller high school – I guess if you want to focus more on your school work maybe a smaller school would be better, but Penn State is ideal for most people. I actually don’t think it’s hard to get around campus at all I have no problem walking around campus and nowhere is really more than a 15 minute walk – I actually haven’t even used the buses that much.

Campus Life and Social Life
There’s some advantages to the Honors College and there’s some disadvantages- you live in South, you’re close to the gym, you’re close to the hub, you’re close to downtown, and its definitely a benefit – it’s quieter, east halls is more of like, everyone’s trying to meet each other, there are freshman scrambling around finding their ground.

Academics
TA’s are everywhere, they’re almost cooler because their closer to your age, you can relate more than going to a professor. You get a lot of attention from advisors if you need help with work, but it’s a good experience and it’s not like Nerd Central.

Student Body
Most freshmen have it easy, especially if you’re a girl. Frat parties, you learn that’s a totally different experience. You don’t really have to pay for anything and its really cool. I just turned 21 and that’s a whole new thing here for me and it’s just a different extension of the partying it makes every night available an option. For girls it’s a little easier at the bar and you don’t have to pay as much, it’s a great time. I mean, everyone's there to do the same thing.

In Closing...
Most people I know have definitely studied abroad – there are so many options you can go anywhere you want – just to get away. It’s a totally different experience, you’re in school somewhere else and you don’t even think you’re in school cause you’re not here.

Tailgating is a fabulous thing and the nights after football games, you don’t get dressed up, you’ve been tailgating all day, you go in your game attire, everyone’s into it. My freshman year we were a little better and people stormed Beaver Canyon after every win, away games, home games, it’s a crazy scene – its awesome.
