Big campus - big choices

Rating: 1/5 (50 ratings)
Introduction
I think someone that wouldn’t fit in to Penn State is someone who would be apathetic or who wouldn’t care about getting involved or having a good time and enjoying the surroundings. What’s great about here is that it’s big but really you can walk everywhere – it’ll take a while but you can get buses. Penn State definitely has good looking kids, I mean you see them everywhere around. Especially when it’s nice out.

Campus Life and Social Life
At Penn State – the party scene has a little bit of something to offer for every one – there’s a big bar scene for people who are over 21. There’s always stuff going on: apartment parties, house parties, frat parties - if you’re into that, there’s a big Greek scene here, stuff like that. Most freshman are gonna be living in east halls and they have probably the smallest dorms or rooms that you’ve ever been in your life. The honors kids get bigger dorms and so do athletes definitely.
The food is actually a lot better here at Penn State than you would think. There are a lot of options – there’s a lot of different cafeterias, you get in the habit of ordering food a lot if you miss the cafeteria hours.
Academics
A lot of your introductory and general education courses are gonna be big like 300 kids and you do have the chance to have smaller classes like your freshman English or your languages. I found that the professors are really accessible, anytime you go to them in office hours or you approach them after class, they’re really excited to talk to you. Generally with the big classes, you’re gonna be having just a bunch of exams maybe a group project, which is different than smaller classes where you might have papers or different things like that. It definitely varies but it’s a different kind of workload than high school. Definitely if you want a certain major at Penn State they have it, you can study anything here really.

Student Body
Penn State I would say that’s its definitely really important to be outgoing because people just aren’t always going to come to you, but everyone can make friends, it is easy joining clubs and getting involved in all different kinds of ways can help someone who’s not as outgoing, to meet people. Penn State in some ways is cliquey, its such a big school that people do tend to go gravitate to people that are most like them, I would say, maybe compared to a smaller school atmosphere where everyone just blends in together.

In Closing...
There are so many different activities; I mean there are intramural sports, club sports, varsity sports. Every major has their own clubs, then there’s obviously Greek life and all different things like that.
Penn State football is a huge tradition; I mean our stadium seats 106,000 people. Football weekends are really exciting cause there’s so many people here and its just really fun. After visiting a lot of my friend colleges, this is one of the safest places, I’ve ever been, I don’t feel uncomfortable ever, I walk around at night a lot, by myself even, I never feel uncomfortable.
