My Second Home

Rating: 3/5 (69 ratings)
Introduction
My advice is to not be afraid to talk to people. Were not called Happy Valley for nothing. Everyone is friendly and likes to make new friends. Also talk advantage of the student clubs and organizations offered at our school. Go to the Football games and THON, which is when we raise money for kids with pediatric cancer, it is truly an experience of a lifetime. Also just come out here to do work and have time to play also. I chose Penn State because the first time I visited this school, I knew that this was the place I wanted to spend my college experience. It had everything I wanted in a school. Its my second home. Our school usually embraces everyone.

Campus Life and Social Life
The best of social life is def. the range of options we have here. We have over 700 student organizations and clubs to explore. We also have sports: intramual, club, and division I sports. If there isnt a club that doesnt suit your need you can def. make one. The social life when it comes to parties are def. amazing. We have over 54 fraternities and 22 soroities(sorry if i spelled them wrong). The frat parties are so much fun and its free drinks. Theyre's also apartment and house parties, but drinking and partying isnt always what you do for fun. Our town offers so much to do: bowling, movies, late night penn state, and various things to do. I feel that our schools offers the best options on both sides.

Academics
We have a very good Engineering College, one out of 50 engineers is a Penn State grad. Our Smeal College of Business and College of Communications is also nationally known. We have an amazing College of Education program also. Liberal Arts, Agriculture, Sciences, and Health and Human Development Colleges are also solid as well. I guess you can say our school is pretty good all around. The Professors are pretty good with office hours and they are willing to help with anything. Some of my professors who teaches big lecture halls even know my name, which says a lot. A lot of people think that since Penn State is such a big school that your just a number, but I feel that your only a number unless you don't put forth the effort to get to know your professors. TA's are good, they are usually foreign, but they try to help you in any way. I had teachers that gave me theyre house phone numbers and they said we could at anytime for whatever situation. It made me feel good to know that our teachers really care. We have good and bad teachers like every other school, but its def. what you make it. The workload is very manageable. If you take around 15 to 16 credits, you should be fine. Don't take too many of classes, cause you will be overloaded and not do well, trust me i know.

Student Body
Our student body has so much school spirit. When we say WE ARE PENN STATE, we really mean it. Its nothing like being in Beaver Stadium with 110,000 of your favorite people. Our student section is the best student section in the country. Fall is all about Football and this year will def. be awesome. Our student body doesnt neccessarily go out of their way to friend other people of different races, but I def. did and it made my experience hear much more pleasant. I feel that when you go to college, you need to open up yourself to new people and not hang out with the same kinds of people. Overall our school is def. getting better with diversity, but its all what you make out of it.

In Closing...
I would just like to say that I love everything about Penn State, maybe not the school food (just playing, the food is good). I feel that this school is my second home and I get so happy once I see the school 10 miles up the road, yes you can see the school that far away. I loved my freshman year and can't wait to go back. This is the school that give you an opportunity to grow as a person, meet some good people, and let your hair down when you need it. This school is just amazing and they truly mean "Once your a Penn Stater, your always a Penn Stater". This school bleeds blue and white and if you cut me, I will bleed blue and white. This school is awesome and I hope you will love the school just as much as I do.
