The Good and Bad of PSU
IntroductionThose of you looking to meet new people and try new things should definitely consider Penn State. The opportunities are endless and diversity of people promotes new and unfound relationships. Those of you who are looking for a quiet college and a more stable, steady day to day life should be wary.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe best of campus and social life are among the following: every night opportunities to party, popular and winning sports teams to follow, a vast choice of clubs and organizations, thousands of people to interact with and meet. The worst - having the opportunity to go out every night requires self control, sometimes people feel lost or have trouble fitting in somewhere. For those that are quiet and find it difficult to talk to people, you may feel uneasy or uncomfortable here. The intramural program, for those interested in semi-competitive sports, is among the top in the nation. The competition is very good and degree of play is worthy enough for the top performers.
Weekends are unbelievable... for those under 21, there are parties on every corner and very friendly people inviting you party with them. For those of age, the bar scene is always hopping... not to mention the plethora of beautiful people running around.
AcademicsThe academic program was very appropriate for the entry level conditions. Being a Kinesiology major, I know that my department was extremely helpful throughout the whole process. Professors are always willing to talk to you and help out after/before class. For those worried that class size is too big, I would say that it didn't affect my learning too much. After freshman year and choosing a major, the size of classes decreases dramatically.
Student BodyThe students range from all sorts of backgrounds. Most are a balanced mix of people looking to do well in school but also looking to have a good time. Many people are able to control their time in each aspect, but some get lost in the party scene.
In Closing...I was very satisfied with the overall experience I had at Penn State. The friends and memories from this school will be difficult to match in the future.
