Pepperdine - A Sampler of Everything College is About
Rating: 2.2/5 (28 ratings)
IntroductionPepperdine is definitely for the ASB and student council-typey students lookin' for a place to spread their love and joy. The campus mood is very upbeat and optimistic. Students are always up and about, smiling. They value an altruistic atmosphere, so most everyone is friendly and nice.
If you're looking for a school to be academically challenged, this is not the school for you. Pepperdine is all about kicking back and getting as much work done with the least effort possible. For the most part, people are more concerned about graduation more than the actual idea of education.
But the good side of an easy workload is a lot of students use their spare time on community service and extracurricular activities. 70% of students go to study abroad, internships are plentiful and there seems to be hundreds of organizations for international service/justice.
If you are ready to choose Pepperdine, get ready to spend a lot of time working outside of the classroom setting.
Campus Life and Social LifeStereotypes definitely take concrete form at this school. Imagine Laguna Beach meets Mean Girls. It's not only the girls, but the guys too. Ironically, for a Christian school, about 33% of the guys here are gay.
Because there's not much to do on campus, most students will drive down to Santa Monica or downtown L.A. to chill.

AcademicsThe best departments here are the Communication Division (Advertising, Telecommunications, Sports Broadcast, Public Relations, Media) and the Business Division (International Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Finance). The worst would probably be the Sciences.
Professors are generally easy and lenient. Once in a while, you'll get one of those son of a bitches that grade meticulously. TA's are whatever. There really isn't a need for TA's in most classes because professors do enough to help you.
Workload = piece of pie. Seriously, college education cannot get easier than this. I used to be a B-student in an academically rigorous high school, and I'm getting all A+'s in my classes here.
Student BodySocial life usually doesn't mean drinking and clubbing. Social life at Pepperdine is more about clubs, activities, and sports. People do go out to drink, but it's only a fraction of kids who only do it once in a while.
Weekends are pretty dry, pun not intended. The social buzz usually slows to a halt, and students will just kick back at the beach or around the quiet campus.
In Closing...It's a great school for some, and complete torture for others.
If you're looking for balance in academics, partying, extra-curricular activities, Christian values, and a close community, Pepperdine would be one of your best choices.
If you're looking for frat/sorority life, booze, and out-of-control tailgate parties, you really shouldn't even consider Pepperdine.
