Profs talk to Freshman!

Rating: 1/5 (99 ratings)
Introduction
Princeton is very different from the other Ivy League schools mainly because it has such an intense focus on the undergraduates – for example Cornell West, when he was at Harvard, had graduate students student, undergraduate students as assistants, he never had any contact with undergraduates at all. Now that he’s here he teaches his own Precepts and so you really get to direct with the faculty a lot and the faculty themselves will tell you that the reason they chose Princeton over other Ivy League Schools is because they really like working with undergraduates, their young, more curious and not quite as like focused into just one thing – like they’re interested in a lot more. The professors are here because they want to work with young people, which is pretty unusual for an Ivy League school.

Campus Life and Social Life
It was sort of rough actually, my high school was not very good. For example my college counselor actually advised me to join the military, go to cosmetology school instead of go to college. So, I want exactly prepared for college to much, I felt a littlie out of my depth. I felt other people had a lot more, came in with a lot more background, education background than I did. I had to work a little bit to catch up but pretty soon it didn’t matter at all after the first semester I felt like I fit in pretty well.
Academics
There’s a lot of intellectual elitism here – at the very least, people feel very pleased they go to school here. It’s sort of the stereotype and I think people are little more proud of the stereotype of being elitist than maybe they should be. But I don’t really think people are snobby or mean or go out of their way to be not nice to other people.

Student Body
It’s a pretty friendly campus, I mean not so much compared to Texas where I’m from, but like compared to other schools people are definitely more outgoing here, more sociable. I mean, on a sunny day like this people go outside and talk to each other and play Frisbee or whatever and anyone can join in – it’s just a lot more friendly and outgoing. People are out and about and interacting with each other where as other schools people pretty much stick to their room or the library.
