Triangle Club
IntroductionI was most nervous about the social transition to college – so I think I’m better mentally prepared for that and so when I ended up getting here the academics were the part that gave me more trouble and the social part ended up not being so hard after all. And it helped that I was in a club with lost of people and upperclassmen that helped ease my transition.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe club I’ve been most involved in is the Princeton triangle club – it is a musical comedy group we write all of our own material and we take our show on a national tour during Winter break every year. It’s a very old club – its been in existence for over 100 years and its coed unlike some of the other versions at the other ivy league schools – and before I came to college I hadn’t done too much theater but triangle helped open up my world to all new possibilities I didn’t realize I could do some of these things. In fact in the audition room I surprised myself when the music director asked me to sing something and these notes came out of my mouth that I didn’t even know I could sing. So that was an amazing experience of discovery. And through my 4 years here, through triangle I’ve tried new things I sang my first solo on stage and now I’m even considering giving show business a shot – so it’s really opened up new doors for me.
AcademicsThe President of the University, Shirley Tillman, emailed me to tell me that she heard I was in an upcoming show and she was looking to forward to see it – to seeing it. I think that just goes to show you the kind of intimate community that we have here – I don’t think there’s another school where the President would take time out of her busy day to email a little old junior to tell her that she heard I was in a show and she was looking forward to seeing it. So I felt pretty special.
Student BodyBecause Princeton has such a great endowment its financial program is probably hard to beat – they will calculate what you can afford and cover the rest no questions asked in grant money. It’s not even loans – its money you don’t have to pay back. They’ll create a package for you, including that Grant money and a work study program for you – a student contribution, and a parent contribution and I think you cant beat it – you’re parents will end up paying what they can afford and no questions asked.
