Early Classes!
IntroductionIf you come to Providence college, make sure you're a student that can wake up in time for class. The class are very small and they often take attendance, even Friday 8:30 am class (which are not that easy to wake up for after a late Thursty Thursday) Also, make sure you like no diversity. Providence has about 1% of minorities, and majority of them are athletes or on some kind of scholarship. This school is mostly made up of white Irish Catholics. A lot of students put A LOT of time into going to class and studying. Western Civ is a course you have to take for your two first years here. It is absolutely HORRIBLE! this class alone can make or break your GPA. Especially since this is also the only class they don't take attendance, and often find your self skipping.
Campus Life and Social LifeProvidence is all about the Bar scene. There are so many bars around campus you can see all the drunk kids walking towards the strip of them within a half miles distance. The bad part is you need an ID to get into any of these places (but it does have to be a good one, or a real one for that matter). There are some house parites, but not really any in the winter. Lax late night you can always count on after the bars close. They always have the theme parties, but they are the same every year. Also, the apartments/suites are another place to pregame before a long night of dancing or drinking. Make sure if you do go out, you have people to go with because as soon as you set foot off campus it's a complete GHETTO! So be aware that people have been robbed around campus. The sports teams aren't too great and the school spirit is horrible. the men's basketball team gets the biggest crowd, but since Ryan Gome's graduation, the fans are dwindling. The clubs on campus are lame. The only exciting club people like to join is the frirs club, but all they get to do is give tours to incomming freshmen.
AcademicsProvidence is all about academics. We have a growing business dept. and a a good Bio program, but besides that everything else is kinda up in the air. The education program is very limiting and for most of the degrees offered you have to go to Grad school in order to get a decent job. The workload for bio is demanding. You pretty much have to devote alot of your time taking labs and studying to be that major. Business is another hard workload one, but your garenteed a money making job right out of college. The professors are all willing to work with you. They all want to see the students succeed, so if you show effort and talk to them about your grade, they take that into account as well.
Student BodyA typical student here at providence was never really the cool kid in high school. They were the good kids who worked their butt off in high school to get good grades and try to be an ideal daughter/son. For most of the students they go nuts as soon as they get here since they never got the chance to do it in high school. A lot of people get drunk, but they never get out of control (especially because of parietals). Most of the students come from a wealthy background and want everyone to know it. They go to everyclass no matter how hungover they are, and will stay up late hours of the night untill they finish all their work. (even if they don't sleep at all).
