The Truth About PC
IntroductionI decided to come to PC after taking a tour of campus, researching online and in books and hearing what my elder brother had to say about the school (alumni). I chose PC for it's outstanding academics, awesome bar/party scene and it's location near downtown Providence. I would say someone who is looking for that 'crazy' party school with greek life and a massive student body should think twice.
Campus Life and Social LifeBasically, PC is a drinking school. There is aways something to do during any day of the week. There are clubs, bars, on campus bar, house parties, dorm/apt. parties, outdoor events/concerts, etc. Ususally on a weekend night, there is pregaming, then going out to bars and then late night at some house with a keg or two. Also, carding at PC is a joke. Almost any fake ID will work for anyone. Most bars have more the half of people being underage. Drinks are cheap as well (usually $2.75 for a domestic bottle and $3.50 for a mixed drink). Good times can definitely be had at PC. Also, for all the guys, generally the PC girls are AMAZING. And I really mean A+... they like to party hard and have fun.
AcademicsThe workload at PC is not as bad as it seems. So long as you keep up with basic assignments, do the work and study before some exams, you should be in great shape. PC has great academic departments. Perhaps the best departments are Finance, Education, History, Biology and Health Policy. There are many more departments, but these are the only ones I have experience with and can rate. Also, PC does not have TA's. You will have a professor for every class with no TA.
Student BodyUsually the student body at Providence are primarily from the NE area (Mass, RI, CT, NY, etc). The typical student usually is bright, likes to party and basically is a regular college student (no idea how to describe). One of the only downsides of the PC student body is that the campus is not very diverse. It is good though that the college is taking corrective action to try and stimulate more diversity on campus.
In Closing...I could not be any happier with my decision to attend Providence College. I've recieved a great education, have met some really awesome people, have partied like a college student should (PC is #8 in drinking school from Playboy magazine by the way) and have a great chance at a fantastic job because of how prestigous this school really is. GO TO PC!!
