Best decision of my life
IntroductionI loved every bit of my experience at Purdue. I graduated a year ago with a degree in Management and a minor in marketing. One of the great things about this school is that it's NOT just an engineering school. Yes, The Schools of Engineering are ranked among the best in the world, but what a lot forget to consider is how the rest of the school stacks up. Krannert (Purdue's business school) Ranks in the top 25 for Grad and top 15 for bachelors. Our aviation degree is (as far as I've heard) The premier school for Pilots. Our Hospitality and Tourism Management school is ranked #1. I could keep going, but I think you get the point. Outside academics, the school hosts the 3rd largest greek system in the nation, which is fun. I suggest that you not knock it until you go to at least 3 rush functions and one party. After that, if you still don't like it - don't join and be a GAMMA DELTA IOTA - you'll figure it out. The city is fun, especially once you're 21 - go to Jake's Roadhouse. If you like to get involved, join one of the more than 600 clubs, or hell, get another member and start your own. Anyway, Purdue is a great place for a number of reasons; I hope you find your own reasons.
Campus Life and Social LifeAforementioned large greek system and very near to campus fun bar scene. Chicago is about 2 hours north and Indianapolis is less than an hour south. Intramurals are a blast. Don't like sports? Join a club. There's always something to do, and if for some reason you get bored - you could always study.
Incoming Freshman - Go To BGR (Boiler Gold Rush) - the Freshman orientation program - its a blast.
AcademicsAll programs are great - read the first entry. Professors are remarkably accessible. Talk to them, you never know - they may be a reference for you when you try to get a job after graduation; one of mine is. Workload depends on course of study -: Engineering - its hard. Management - Lots of group work and papers - group projects/presentations are there to test your ability to manage your time. OLS (Organizational Leadership and Supervision) is the easiest major, but is still the best of its type in the nation.
Student BodyStudents from all over; lots of local hoosiers, but it also has one of the largest international student populations in the nation, so its quite diverse. There is no typical student. Again with the 600+ student organizations and clubs so there's nothing typical to get involved in!
In Closing...Get involved. Go to class. Talk to your professors. Play Sports, join a club, have fun. Do Not sit in your Residence Hall all the time - you'll hate life and miss out on so much.
