Great School Bad Location
IntroductionI decided to go to Purdue because I wanted to go to a Big 10 school and I felt Purdue holds a better reputation then the rest of the schools. Although many would disagree with me; if you came to Purdue you would see. This school has a very interesting history and many fun traditions (grand prix ;). Whenever I mention that I am a purdue student even in foreign countries, many people know of the school and its reputation. Also this school is a very fun school for any type of person. The only negative I can really state is that the winter is long and horrible. I stress the word horrible, unless you are in a Frat or 21 years old or know of alot of people with apartments there is nothing to do in the winter. The campus pretty much goes still right after winter break when there is nothing to look forward to. So if you hate the cold do your self a favor and dont come to Purdue, but if your cool with it then Purdue is for you.
Campus Life and Social LifeI cant complain about the social life, as soon as you come to school which should be BGR week if you don't go to BGR week you will regret it. BGR week is a must its a time when everyone is trying to meet people, there are sick parties, and for all the sober chillers there are a lot of activities. Also it makes moving in very easy and you will know the campus like the back of your hand after a few nights of trying to find the dorms. Football games are insane, the campus is completely out of control on football days. And even if you don't drink there is still alot to do, in fact my roommate doesn't drink or party and he loves Purdue. There are alot of activities for everyone. Once winter comes outdoor activities die until snow falls then theres alot of sledding and snow sports but the parties start to die down a little. Once christmas comes the campus dies unless your in a frat or know people in frats or are 21. As for the bars there are some good bars the scene by the bars gets pretty fun. However, unless your 21 you can't even sit in the bars at Purdue. As for the police scene, if you drink and walk to your dorm later you will get arrested. You may get lucky but if your getting pretty sloshed your gonna get arrested, possibly multiple times. I am not kidding getting arrested at Purdue is very common the police have nothing better to do there then bust college students and I think theres like 5 different stations with jurisdiction. The good thing is the campus is pretty safe, there's emergency boxes everywhere. Also during spring we have Grand Prix week where the whole school basically goes crazy, even the professors are laid back its a great time. All the fraternities throw parties every day of the week even if you don't plan on going to Purdue I suggest staying with a buddy who does during grand prix week its an awesome time.
AcademicsI have not heard a bad thing about any major at this school. If you place on taking blow of classes your freshman year Purdue is not for you. I took what I thought were the easiest classes and got buried to the point where I had to drop 2 of my classes. This is not an easy school, there are no easy majors, prepare to work hard. Professors are excellent the only complaints I have ever heard or experienced about a professor is the work load in the class.
Student BodyForty thousand people at this school. However, the school starts looking a lot smaller after you have been there for a few months. I have no complaints about Purdue other than the weather. The food is good, professors are awesome, the people here are really cool there's a million different types of people and everyone does there own thing. If Purdue was in a better location I would have no complaints.
In Closing...This school is a great school, there are alot of unique different people and I'v had some good times at Purdue. This school has a lot of really smart people. Admission basis there opinion mostly on test scores, the lower scores of the ACT here on average is 24. IU sucks BTFU!
