Rhodes Review

IntroductionDo you want small classes? Do you want to be pushed outside your academic comfort zone? Do you want to question your life, your values, your beliefs? Do you want to truly learn? Rhodes will provide those things for you in full force if you choose to take advantage of its opportunities. A student who will be happy at Rhodes is one who is willing to put forth effort, engage themselves in activities outside the classroom, and be willing to live with a few very superficial people.
Campus Life and Social LifeIt's nice to routinely see people I know on the way to class, but everyone knows everything about everyone. Secrets don't last. Campus is dead on the weekends except for the frat houses. Sports aren't a big deal...at all. Sorry, but the football/basketball/soccer games suck compared to big high school or college athletics. Join a club; everyone does. Most people join 2 or 3 or 4. Get involved from the start; it's difficult to get involved as you get older. Rush a sorority or fraternity, but don't necessarily pledge. Get to know people.

AcademicsAcademics are solid. Most professors are amazing. When you get an "average" professor, you're hugely disappointed because you've become accustomed to such intelligent, caring, and professional professors. They sincerely care about you and your success, especially if you show them that you care, as well. No TA's here, which is awesome. We do have student tutors, of course. Workload is on the heavy side, but not unmanageable. You are encouraged to balance your studies with sports, clubs, community service, fun, etc.

In Closing...Rhodes College is wonderful - for a specific type of person. If you are unhappy here, you will be very unhappy and should transfer to somewhere where you will be happy. If you are happy here, you will THRIVE. Visit. It's the best tool you have in your college decision.
