The Liberal Atheist's Opinion
IntroductionVisit if at all possible, and really talk to as many people as you can. I chose it for the majors, city, greek life, honor code and size. I wish I'd known that it's hard to go to Beale Street for concerts until you're 21. Also, rush almost starts on day one, so meet as many students as possible before making a choice. It's really hard to get in after freshmen year.
The academics here are perfect- challenging and interesting, and I hope the school gains recognition.
For liberal, artsy, intellectual non-Christians, either stay away or try really hard to find people you click with. You'll be in the minority.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere's always something going on. We get great lecturers, and RAB (Rhodes Activity Board) brings in cool artists and plans events out in the quads. The theater could be much stronger, but it seems the students and administration are pushing the school to being more artistic, more liberal and more intellectual. I can't wait to see where the school goes.

AcademicsI love the academics here!!!!! I've been really impressed with political science. The classes tend to be small and the papers and projects are largely student-directed, which allows us to explore what we want.
Student BodyThe student body is too conservative for me. A lot of the Southern Greeks can be really fake, shallow and closed off, but if you keep looking there are plenty of really cool people here. As a student from the north, there's a lot of culture shock, so it's important to visit and know that it's going to be an adventure.

In Closing...President Trout has turned this school around. Admission is getting tougher and the student body more diverse. Most of the professors and administrators I've met have been brilliant, driven and caring. I hope that the student body continues to move in that direction. The school itself has so much potential!
