Rutgers College

IntroductionRutgers is a huge school, but the rumors are really not true. It is nothing like high school, you really choose to see people that you wanna see, whether you knew them or not, and the STD rumor is just that, a rumor. The study done was very flawed. I chose it because I needed a fairly inexpensive college to go to since I have many years ahead of me until I become what I plan to be. Someone who is very serious about studies and wants to get into an amazing grad school should probably try to go to a higher ranked school.
Campus Life and Social LifeRutgers is a fun place to be if you enjoy a lot of drinking, and a small amount of places to do it. If you're one of those people that has fun with 5 people in a room getting drunk or high.. then its perfect for you. Also if you enjoy crowded small bars, then you'll enjoy the after 21 life at Rutgers. Now if you don't enjoy drinking.. you might not like the scene, since college is focused on it, but there are nice restaurants to go to and a comedy club downtown.
AcademicsI would say it's really a great place to get a good education. The classes are tough, but it really prepares you for graduate school. It's reallly easy to get a C, which is great for lots of underacheivers, but hard to get an A, so work is required. The biology, engineering, pharmacy and chem departments are very challenging, but psych communication and other less extreme majors aren't bad. Professors and ta's are helping people and try hard to make classes interesting. The workload really depends on what grade you want to achieve.
Student BodyThe typical student is from around the area. Most of the students are obviously from New Jersey. But honestly they range from dorky and book worms, to athletic meat heads. The funny part is, people are very mixed. You'll find some smart kids smoke a lot, and some of the dumb kids are at the library. Everyone is into something different, whether its going to the gym, being in a frat, which i recommend for most guys since its the easiest way to party and get girls, and others enjoy art or books and theatre.
In Closing...Rutgers is a great school, but its really whatever you make of it. You can have an amazing time, or a terrible one depending on your outlook from day 1. Be yourself, find your group of close friends, and dont forget that you're at a college where studying needs to happen, and you'll have a great college experience.
