THE SCHOOL 4 U!!!
IntroductionWhatever you do here if you come, stay true to yourself, and try not to change. This cannot be stressed enough. Everyone here is so different, and it can be easy to get washed into the wrong crowd for you. I don't mean the drug/alcohol/party crowd!! If that's who you are go for it! I just mean make friends who you are comfortable with.
Campus Life and Social LifeFootball games are the biggest events ever. Everyone goes to them, and there is a lot of school spirit. There are parties every night at any of the frat houses which are all located close to each other, on college avenue. It is definetly easier to get in anywhere if you're a girl. If you're a boy, its tough. (You have to bring 4 girls with you to get in. So, tell your guy friends you're going to sleep, then go look for girls to take with you to party!)
AcademicsThe academic reputation is good. Professors are all very different, some are in their 50s, while others are fresh out of graduate school. Many of my professors live in New York, and have to take the train, so it is not always possible to meet with them. Most professors say the time and place they are available, and everyone has a Rutgers email address that can easily be reached.
Student BodyMost of the students here are not very friendly, (except at parties) so if you're not a party person, it is harder to make friends. Also, because this is a state school most people are from New Jersey and know each other from high school. Many people request roommates and live with their friends, because you Never know who you are going to end up with!! If you're from out of state, you have to be really outgoing.
In Closing...My favorite part of the whole school is that it is so close to New York. Many people go there for jobs, and internships, and there are Many great opportunities! The train station is located right on campus, and it takes about a half an hour to get to New York. It costs 17$ for a round trip ticket, but you can get a monthly, or yearly pass for a lot cheaper.
Overall, it is a great school, but most people definetly need some time to get used to it. Many people say that they feel homesick the first couple of weeks, and many go home on the weekends. The best advice I would have given myself was probably to get to know your roommate before you move in!!!!
