Great College Experience
IntroductionI grew up in a neighboring state and chose SLU because of its beautiful campus, responsive administration, great faculty and friendly, genuine, down to earth students. I was admitted to several higher-ranked schools (some with larger scholarships), but nowhere did I find the same quality of people. To this day, I am incredibly happy with my choice.
Campus Life and Social LifeSLU is unfortunately not located in a great (or even good) neighborhood. There is nothing to do around campus; you really need a car to get anywhere. Campus life is decent... There are some school-sponsored events and such. If you are a hard partier, it may be a bit harder to find your niche right away. Many students have VERY quiet weekends... Others are from the area and go home for the weekend. It is definitely not a party school.
AcademicsProfessors are great. They are not only experts in their subjects, they are good *teachers* as well. The administration is very responsive... EXCEPT career services. Financial aid and admissions are fast-acting.
Student BodyThe student body is friendly and intelligent, but extremely homogenous. It is supposedly 25% minority, but walking around campus, it is kinda hard to believe that statistic. EVERYONE is white, upper-middle class, and somewhat religious. The campus is not even as diverse as my incredibly white, suburban high school! However, most people are pretty nice and good to be around. The majority of students (even the wealthiest ones) have jobs, so there's not a lot of spoiled kids around. It's an all around good group of people.
In Closing...Great school overall -- I would recommend it to anyone!
