Safe, Cheap, and a whole lot of fun

Rating: 4.2/5 (5 ratings)
Introduction
Shippensburg is not the most well known university in the country and certainly isn't in the greatest location but there are many positives to the place. I picked Ship because it is one of the best schools in the PA state system and ranks high in academics for a public school. That and it is very affordable for in-state kids! This is the type of school for kids who like laid back parties, frats, and friendly teachers. Do not come if you are interested in a bustling city, rigorous academics, or a lot of diversity.

Campus Life and Social Life
There is always a party at Ship and the town has more bars and clubs than gas stations. The school itself is about the size of the town population wise so when school is in session the kids overrun the place. Frat row is very active and there is a competitive Division II sports scene. This is not a division one school so sports are more low-key but they still bring in the crowds especially football. The town itself is complete dullsville so stay active and find the cool house parties.

Academics
Teachers pretty much rock all around. You won't be stuck with TAs just PHDs

Student Body
There is a lack of diversity considering the school is in the middle of nowhere (PA). Still the campus does have an active multicultural center and tries to be liberal.

In Closing...
Ship is one of the best state schools in PA. If you come you'll have a great time. The biggest downside is that the school is not well known outside the northeast so it can be a hassle trying to explain to people how cool it is. Also if you want to see big time sports teams come to campus you'll be sad because the only teams coming sound like Millersville, Slippery Rock, and Mansfield (huh?). I wish the school put some more cash towards sports but there are plenty of club sports going on if that is your thing.
