Not a Lot of Resources

Introduction
If you want to work hard and get an all around great education, Southwestern is for you. If you want an education with a strong concentration in English or Art History, you might want to think about somewhere else that's bigger with better resources. Southwestern teachers are always available to help a student, yet in these areas that may not be enough. The freshman dorms are pretty nice, but the sophomore dorms are awful. It's much better junior and senior year with nice on campus apartments.

Campus Life and Social Life
The Southwestern administration is making a huge effort to get students out of fraternity houses and into closer controlled environments which most students find boring. Although offering non-greek opportunities is a good thing, the administration has gone out of its way to make greek students feel unwelcome. Many students are finding off campus alternatives to these activities which has led to more drunk driving and situations in which students aren't even looking after students. Even the students over 21 sometimes feel as though they were back in high school. Southwestern is currently a changing environment. If I were applying to schools five years from now, I wouldn't want to come here because of the impact of the administration on the social life, even though I love my fellow students and the education I am receiving is well rounded. I would look for a school where I could work hard and play hard. Academics
If the professors have been at Southwestern for over five years, then they know what they are doing. However, several temporary professors I have had at the school, although PhDs in their field, have proved disappointing and subpar for a private university. The workload is always rigorious although it can often feel like busy work instead of what's really important. However, the professors, whether good or bad, are always availible and the university is small enough that you can ask for help from students, librarians or professors.

Student Body
Southwestern is a truly accepting enviroment so don't let the Texas image fool you. The student body ranges from the most extreme jocks to the most secluded emo kids.

In Closing...
There is a serious lack of diversity in race and state origin but Southwestern is not ridden with cliques and prides itself on students with diverse ideals.
