Gotta be Open Minded here...
IntroductionThe average Stanford student is a hard working committed intellectual. In many ways these students are committed to something. They have what we call “intellectual vitality.”
Campus Life and Social LifeWhat sucks about Stanford students, is that, a lot of times we do get caught up in the bubble that we live in. We have an incredible Campus, it’s like a resort. So in a lot of ways, it is like a fantasy island. So, for me who’s involved in stuff that has to do with suffering and in justice, it’s very easy to forget all that on this campus, so a lot of students, yeah, they do forget all that in a lot of way. Often times, because of the area that we’re in Palo Alto, It’s difficult to enjoy sort of the University lifestyle that a lot of students perhaps at NYU or at UCLA get to enjoy because of the city they’re located in. Stanford students kind of don’t grow in that sense, because they come from one home to another home and don’t really get to integrate themselves in the greater society they’re in.

AcademicsMy major really discusses how science and technology has effected society and how society has effect science and technology. I’ve studied everything from the Bopal disaster in India and how technology transfer has really effected certain communities because there hasn’t been enough cultural anthropology going on out there and working with these people before bringing in certain technologies that are very advanced for them, to even ethical dilemmas within science and technology.. I think it’s completely applicable to every career out there. It’s definitely helped me in philosophical questioning of where our society is and where we’re going. Stanford professors are really eager to work with students. They’re so open to working with students that I’m amazed at the doors that they’ve opened for me and the faith that they have in their students.
Student BodyThe Stanford students for the most part are very independent. I mean they work with each other. In a sense it almost does fill that image of the California laid back mentality. The student do have a laid back approach as far as competition goes. I’ve never seen students harp on each other about who’s doing better. The high school stuff got left behind in high school as far as the students go here at Stanford. I do know that there is just a lot of debauchery and a lot of craziness that happens…I would say that it embodies the free-spirit character that most students at Stanford have. If I had to put it lightly as far as what happens at full moon.
In Closing...If you’re looking to just have fun in college, this isn’t the place for you. If you’re lazy, it’s probably not the place for you. And also if you have a very defined image of what life should be like at college, it will probably be hard for you too. You have to be very open-minded at this school. Because this school is a very open-minded University.
