Not for Small Town People!

Rating: 2/5 (38 ratings)
Introduction
If you're a small town person, you might want to avoid the city life of U Albany. It can be overwhelming and alienating. If you're the kind of person who can't imagine not drinking at least 5 nights a week, U Albany may be for you. Just don't forget, you do have to study. Also make sure you don't eat on campus! The food is disgusting, and can make you sick.

Campus Life and Social Life
Weekends are packed with drunken college students. We don't have the best athletes, but we do have good school spirit. Even if you don't like U Albany, the spirit is catchy, and you'll find yourself excited anyway. The bars are over packed on weekends, but great during the week. Get there early if you want to sit at the bar. They tend to have specials during the week. There's "Danes after Dark" the alternative to drinking, that goes on every once and awhile, they tend to be pretty cool and do give you an alternative to drinking your life away. Anyone ever heard of Sober Bowling?

Academics
I'm a business major, and it's a lot of work, the TAs are helpful, but a lot of the professors aren't great. There are a few that are outstanding, and are always willing to help students, and some that teach you nothing, and you could answer nothing on thier tests, and you still get above a 70.

Student Body
The student body is pretty diverse, U Albany has the rep as a party school, so you can imagine there's a great deal of people who do go out and party all the time. Students I find are mainly local: living within two hours of thier home.

Most of the guys here are pretty preppy, popped collar pink t-shirt and would die if Aeropostale said it wasn't cool to breathe.

The girls are pretty high maintenance, you'll be hard fetched to find a girl who can be seen without makeup and not hide herself in the shadows

In Closing...
All in all U Albany isn't a bad place, there are niches for almost everyone, even if you're more interested in learning than in drinking (trust me we exist). Just avoid the food, you'd be amazed what you can make in the microwave, keep a level head on your shoulders, remember you're paying for this, so make it worth it! Don't come to school, spend all this money, and never even acquire that degree you were aiming for.
