Outsiders Perspective

Rating: 2/5 (35 ratings)
Introduction
Well the campus is sorta boring. Not much to do around it if you don't have a car. So make sure you do or have a friend who does. The acting and film conservatories are really what the school is known for. So if you want to do that than Purchase is a good school for you. The school isnt all to fun socially. My friend comes back every weekend.

Campus Life and Social Life
Campus life involved a lot of sitting around and getting wasted. I saw a lot of drugs up there and tons of beers. Food wasn't too bad, but i didnt see much of a selection either. Dorms are kinda nice. My friend share a room with 10 ppl: one shower, 3 sinks, and one toilet. I was actually there this weekend for a concert they had on campus called "Culture Shock" There were a few lame carnival games, some food stands, and about 20 bands, of which a third were decent. But most of the campus came out and partied.

Academics
Once again, if you want to be an actor or do anything with film, then apply to the conservatorie at Purchase. They have a good reputation for those two things. My friend who goes there doesnt seemed to be obverwhelmed with work. He actually comes home to Staten Island and visits us about 2-3 times a week. But im not sure whether that means he gets all his work done, or he slacks off.

Student Body
Student body is not that diverse. Many New Yorkers and northeaterners. Most ppl are white, not ethincally diverse. Most kids drink a lot on the weekends. A lot of kids smoke pot, and i also saw some cocaine being snorted. There isnt much to do there, but you can take the train or bus into NYC which is only 45 mins to an hour away.

In Closing...
In conclusion, I give SUNY Purchase 1 thumb up out of 2. I do that for the good film and acting school, the kids, and the drugs.
