IntroductionStudents considering Syracuse Univeristy's Newhouse school of Journalism or the Engineering School must be prepared to work their butte off. It is no joke. Syracuse Univeristy boasts the #1 undergraduate communications school in the country so they will definitely mak eyou work hard for the degree. SU is known for having parties every weekend. If you are truely focused, youw ill not become easily distracted because people here will cajole you to skip studying to engage in not only parties buts ocial activities and it will ultimately affect your academics. As much distractions and party hardy people here there are, there are also many people who are willing to study and get good grades and it is up to you to stick with those people if you want at least a descent grade. Syracuse University as a whole is a classy institution with a world class academics as well as resources and opportunities that are available to help you pursue your passion. But like any other college, no one is there to hold your hand. You have to seek them out. College as a whole can make or break you. To survive here it takes not just book smarts but street smarts as well.
Campus Life and Social LifeYou'll definitely notice how superfluous partying is at Syracuse University. Once again, it is up to you to know just how much partying you need to not be able to put a dent in your academics. Sports as well as school spirit is definitely big here. If you have never had a thing for the color orange in the past, being here will make you grow into loving and appreciating it. Most students at SU at least owns once piece of apparel from the University.

AcademicsBecause of world class academics, you will leave Syracuse University enlightened, challenged, and feeling liek you can do anything you put your mind to. The Newhouse school of public communciations as well as the Maxwell school of pubic affairs are ranked #1 in teh country. Both divisions prepare the students for the world outside of college. Students here are challenged, exposed to new ideas and are ambitious to take what they've learned to the next level.
Student BodySyracsue University does harbor a bunch of stuck up students who think they are better than everyone but the number of students here that are willing to become your friend and help you when time are tough definitely makes you look past that. At SU, there is always something to do outside of academics, provided you look for them.
In Closing...Like its fellow institutions, Syracuse Univeristy does have it's pros and cons. It is up to you to make the most out of your college experience. A little word of advice, do not underestimate the winters here and think wearing a light spring jacket will be able to help you sustain the cold. It gets brutally cold here and you do need to bundle up. Be smart by wearing the proper winter attire. Many students here made this mistake. Don't be one of them.
