Artsy, friendly school

Rating: 3/5 (81 ratings)
Introduction
I think the only thing that made me choose this school was before I came I met a bunch of people in Greek life and I loved it. I rushed at it as soon as I got here. The college is basically for music and drama and acting and things along those lines.

Campus Life and Social Life
The bars and Greek life are a really big deal on campus. Even if you’re not affiliated with Greek life people go to frat parties and stuff. I’ll hang out with sorority sisters a lot. We’re laidback; everyone wants to have a good time. They drink a lot. Go out 4 or 5 nights a week. But at the same time we get our work done.
Academics
My professors I absolutely love, they are always looking to have fun. They are always willing to meet with you outside of class. The majority of my major classes are smaller. There are never more than 30 kids in the classroom. So the professors get to know you if you are there enough. They all have office hours set up and you can always set up appointments to go see them at any other time. In some of my classes I have attendance policies; in the lectures you can’t take attendance because there are so many kids. Academically I think we are one the higher schools besides Ivy’s. I think standards are lower for athletes. But just regular students academics are pretty good. I spend about 5 hours in the library a week on a normal week. During midterm week I’ll be in the library for 10 hours a day.

There are majors that the slackers go to like Retail. There are ways for the slackers to get by.

Student Body
For the most part everybody is friendly, but there are cliques definitely among the sororities and frats. A mainstream student at Syracuse is probably from New Jersey on Long Island. Good backgrounds, someone in their family probably went here. They are laidback. A majority of everyone here is pretty financially well off.
There are a lot of intelligent kids on this campus. But then there are slackers who get by taking easy classes.
There are probably a lot better looking girls here than guys. It’s definitely more about hooking up here. Syracuse has its nights when everybody runs around wild.

In Closing...
Basketball is really big deal here. It’s only the real big except for lacrosse. People will wait hours before the game to get in. And then you get in and it’s just crazy. It’s a lot of fun.
I knew about the weather before I came to Syracuse but our freshman year was one of the worst winters they’ve ever had and I definitely wasn’t prepared for that.
