Small School, Big Heart
IntroductionI applied to TAMIU while I was still a high school student to get ahead with my credits and experience the college endeavor. I definitely don't regret it! Considering most universities in America, Texas A&M International University is EXTREMELY affordable without being a wishy-washy education. The professors are knowledgeable in their areas of study, and the campus is great. While the school may have a very laid-back vibe, DON'T think you can slide by. Studying is imperative to success at this school.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe social life at Texas A&M is definitely great. Since it's a small school, it's very easy to make new strong friendships. Also, despite the size, you will find a fair share of diversity, being that most students are drawn to the very strong business program. Asian, Middle-Eastern, Hispanic, African-American, and Caucasian are all at TAMIU. Once you've made friends, it isn't difficult to find things to do. And while MAJOR partying may not be available on a daily basis, the surrounding city of Laredo, Texas always has things to do. With tons of nightclubs, restaurants, movie theaters, and even a sports arena, there won't be a boring weekend if you're willing to look for fun. Mostly though, expect to have more get-togethers with close friends then all-out bashes. TAMIU isn't a HUGE party school. But you'll definitely have fun.

AcademicsThe best program by far at TAMIU is the business program. Since the campus is located on a border city, emphasis on international trade is great. But the other programs are satisfactory too, and the nursing department is definitely respected. Professors are very personable and easy to contact, and most won't mind you asking for extra help or advice on anything. The workload is decent- if you're a dedicated student, it won't be difficult to keep up. BUT, if you get lazy, the piles of papers will definitely begin to stack up!
Student BodyThe student body at Texas A&M is diverse, fun, and friendly. They know how to work but know how to play as well.
In Closing...It's a great school with a homey feeling. There's definitely a great support system at TAMIU, and it should definitely go on your list to consider.
