A Tough School

Rating: 5/5 (96 ratings)
Introduction
There is not too many minorities down here, it’s mostly Caucasians I guess and it wouldn’t be as bad, I mean it’s not that bad because everybody around here is so nice, but when I walk into classrooms sometimes it’s only like 3 or 4 African Americans in the class. It’s not that diverse. It’s mostly majorities here, but there’s a couple, every year it’s getting bigger. Every year there’s more minorities here, it’s getting bigger.

Campus Life and Social Life
Social scene, there’s always something to do here from Wednesday to Saturday night, you’ll never be bored around here. Sometimes you got to choose school work over going out. It’s hard, there’s always something to do here. There’s this place, Northgate, everybody goes there on weekends or there’s clubs around here The Bend or whatnot. Some people have house parties, but freshmen, seniors, everybody hangout together.

Academics
I like it here, it’s hard, it’s hard to get into A&M, it’s hard to get in here, and there’s a reason because it’s going to be hard to stay here. You got to work. It’ll take time to get adjusted because the school work is hard. You got to make decisions a lot about go out or doing homework and plus maybe an athlete, I’m always busy from 8:00 in the am to 10:00 at night for practice, and school work and homework. At first I was ready to transfer, but now I wouldn’t want to be any place else other than here.

Student Body
The Black Frats, since there are not many African-Americans that go to this school, our frats are small, we got some frats with like 5 people. The boy frats have like 5 or 6 people. But the girl frats, they have a little bit more. They have like 15 people at the most, but we really don’t have too many people in the frats around here.

In Closing...
The first month here, I was ready to go back home. But since that first month, I wouldn’t want to be anyplace else other that here. I love it here. Honestly I wish it was more diverse than what it was, but everybody around here…when I walk into a classroom I don’t feel different anymore. At first, I was like, I’m just sticking out like a sore thumb, but now when I walk into the classroom, I don’t even feel any diff, I feel like just like everybody else.
