Culture and Traditions

Rating: 3/5 (23 ratings)
Introduction
I chose A&M because of it's culture and traditions. Even though the campus and school are huge, once you get here, you find friends and your own small niche. Everyone is super friendly. When walking to class, you get howdy's all the time instead of walking in a silence. Sports at A&M are incredible because the "12th Man" behind them. Football games are a blast and midnight yell is a great time the night before the game. Everyone goes to the stadium, practices the yells (we don't have cheers, b/c we don't have cheerleaders) and at the end of it, they turn the lights out and you either mug down (kiss) or get out your lighter and try to find somone.

Campus Life and Social Life
Partying is fun in College Station. We have Northgate: a row of bars and places to eat, that a lot of people go to on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Some country and regular dance clubs. There are always other parties going on at houses and apartments. We also have Carpool, it's a service that offers non- judgmental rides home at the end of the night. So you always know that there's an alternative to driving home. Rec sports are huge here. A lot of the people that play are really good athletes that just chose to get and education over playing in college. There are C and D leagues for newcomers. Intramurals include: soccer (indoor and outdoor), volleyball, sand volleyball, track, swimming, intertube water polo, basketball, 4 on 4 football, table tennis and more. We have a HUGE gym that is open to all students. It has an indoor running track, 2 indoor pools, and outdoor pool with hot tub, sand volleyball, courts, and much more.

Academics
The engineering department here is one of the best around. But be prepared to work hard. Beginning classes are harder because of class size 100-300. But TA's divide the classes into groups of about 20 so you get one on one learning once a week too. Architecture is a big school, and we have the best Industrial Distribution progam in the nation.

Anything other than those majors are considered the easier majors.

Student Body
Typical student is probably from Texas, though I had a roomate Freshman year from Florida that fell in love with it here. Majority are Conservative... but def. not all of them. Students are into sports, partying, dancing.

In Closing...
Most students do move off campus after their freshman or sophomore year, so in the dorms you are around mostly people your age.

The campus and people here are AMAZING... You have to be here to experience the Aggie network and the true AGGIELAND.
