Get Your Guns UP!!
IntroductionMy biggest piece of advice to incoming freshman is to have an open-mind about West Texas. West Texas is a different kind of Texas. Lubbock ,TX is a different kind of Texas . Lubbock,TX is where Texas Tech University is. The climate is 4 seasons(Literally!!)it is one of the only places in Texas that have 4 seasons. Around late October, early Nov.-March it's get's cold. It actually snows in Dec-Feb. very randomly.usually February and March being the months with the highest chance of snow. Get ready to go to a very fun southwestern school, That isn't like Texas A&M or Texas. Lubbock is a town of about 250,000 so there is plenty to do. My 2nd biggest piece of advice is to carpool or but plane tickets because if you're from south or east of Dallas the drive will take at least 4hrs+. Texas Tech is a school with awesome horizons,I will explain...
Campus Life and Social LifeBasically Tech is the U.S.'s 2nd biggest campus,it is very easy to get around campus,a very beautifully and well thought out campus. Also the architecture is Spanish architecture. The campus has multiple dormitories, but most likely you will be on the southwest part of campus-Chitwood /Weymouth /Coleman dormitories. It is 3 11-story dorms,Maybe you will be in the others, the point is you meet a lot of people in these areas. Off-campus living is also huge with Tech Terrance,Overton estates and apartments within walking distance to the university. Red Raider spirit is High the whole community and the students come pack the stadium, for students admission is built into your tuition so there is no need to ever but tickets unlike other schools when you have to buy tickets for every football game. There is nothing like 56,000 + fans Cheering on the Red Raider Football Team to victory. We rush the field,we our a very crazy and rowdy student body. 4hrs prior to kickoff we have Raidergate-student tailgating-tons of alcohol and partying before the game kicks off. Campus life is big we have many clubs and a very nice rec center with a brand new lazy river and pool. Parties are abundant, they are practically every night.Thursday starts the weekend ,house parties,to apartment parties, to bars and clubs the alcohol never runs out!! As a southwestern School -Greek Life dominates Tech we have over 44 fraternities and sororities. Every kind of person finds their niche here at Tech. The student Union(The SUB) has cafeterias, movie theaters, stores, meeting rooms, etc.

Academicswith 28,000 students the possibilities are endless! I can't speak about the other which are pretty good, business is getting better&better by the year. Anyways as a Science/Pre-med/Pre-physician assistant studies major:1.The Chem classes 1307&1308(Ge.Chem 1&2) are pure weed out courses.2.Make sure you take Intro.Chemistry 1301-It's a review course in chemistry,it will give you a distinct advantage into doing well in chemistry and knowing how the dept. as a whole work(No Labs for 1301),Prepare to work your ass off! And still have fun on the weekends. After chem 1307&1308-it becomes a very fair class.2.Phys-Take physics or don't take Phys. at Tech-You be the Judge.3.Biol 1&2 for life sciences-a lot of Hardwork, an Outstanding teacher, you get what you pay for and you get what you put in to it. 4.Don't ever slack off! Even if you're pledging a fraternity or a sorority . Take 12-15hrs especially if you're working. as always with whatever you're studying-know what you're getting yourself into. Depending on what college you enroll in(Rawls College of Business, college of Arts&Sciences, College of Agriculture&Natural Resources& Whitacre school of engineering,College of Visual&Performing arts ,College of Human Sciences,College of Architecture,College of mass communications,College of Education,Honors College,College of outreach and distance education) you will have to fulfill their core program in addition to your degree's core program and plan. Arts&Sciences is the biggest one of course(student body). We are the only school to have a Medical School and Law school on campus. We also have pharmacy,Physician assistant,Physical therapy,Nursing schools(any other allied health and science). We are very good at Law ,Science,Mass communications,Music ,medicine,Architecture, and other things.
Student BodyWith 28,000 students,Texas Tech is known for having one of the hottest students bodies in the Nation. The girl's are some of the hottest in Texas, the south and the nation. The weekends in the fall is an all day tailgate then a afternoon or evening football game, fraternity and other parties are after the game. If there is an away game then there is a viewing party all over town, campus, and Greek circle. Fans are very loyal, students are very friendly-politically the campus is moderate to conservative.pretty much anyone can get along with somebody at this school.
In Closing...Texas Tech is an experience to be haved, words can't explain how awesome this university it is. If you have an open mind you will learn to love Tech and Lubbock. We students have a saying "Lubbock or leave it !" It pertains to the latter. Please visit this campus and decide for yourselfs Wreck'EM Tech!!
