Why the heck not!

Rating: 2/5 (31 ratings)
Introduction
Texas Tech really is an awesome school...unless you want a big city life. The bars are awesome, the campus is awesome, but most of Lubbock sucks. The houses all around the campus are old and shitty; you really have to go 20 minutes from campus to find a good house. The dorms are crappy and old, tuition goes up every year and the fees can get outrageous. But in the end its still cheaper then most schools and Lubbock is easy to get around there's always parties goin down.

Campus Life and Social Life
The best part about being in college is the parties, which are always happening. Want a 3 kegger on a Wednesday night? You got it. Greek life is decent here. It’s not a huge thing but overall it’s pretty good. The girls are amazingly beautiful which makes it a pleasure to walk around campus...especially in the early fall and late spring when short skirts and small shirts prevail. The only shitty part is the strip, which is fun to make a trek out there but why can't I just buy beer at Wal-Mart where it’s cheaper. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Lubbock is the largest dry city in the nation and the only place to buy alcohol is the row of liquor stores called the strip. They fix prices and screw over poor college students.
Academics
Academics are ok here. It’s not on a level with UT or A&M but they are getting better and better every year. The business school is pretty good, especially accounting. The biology dept is one of the best in the nation due to an incredibly hard teacher, Dini, who my advisor compared to a Yale or Harvard teacher. But you learn a lot and you know what you are talking about when you are done with his classes. Computer Science is ok. Architecture is also incredible and so is the nursing school. Most of the programs are very good. I haven't heard of any programs that are just crappy. They are all very good. Most professors are willing to help you out all the time. I had one that wouldn't alter his time at all though and he had 2 hours a week for an incredibly hard class, Anatomy Physiology. So I didn't get any help from him. The TA's are crappy for the most part, there just to grade and to lead SI sessions, which sometimes work sometimes don't. SI sessions or Supplemental Instruction was a program started by the university to help students outside of class without having to bombard the teacher. They are available for most classes in science, math, and accounting. Workload is on par with most universities. English there's a lot of writing, but it's easy. Math is usually quizzes and no homework, and for business it just depends. It all just depends on the class and teacher.

Student Body
The typical student is very laid back. You see a lot of people wearing flip-flops and jeans. There are very few "frat boys" with the whole popped collar and crap like that. They just look retarded anyhow. Most of the student's drink and probably about half smoke, even if just socially. We all love to party and bongs are a must at parties, at least at parties at my apartment. Just like the saying goes, "Texas Tech...where our Wednesdays are like your Fridays"

In Closing...
The campus is amazing, the girls are amazing, and the parties are amazing. You'll learn alot and have a lot of fun coming here. I never regretted it and the year I had to spend at home I about died because I missed it out here so much. The people are so awesome and you will make so many life-long friends.
