Awesome (but not a party school...)
IntroductionTufts is AMAZING! First of all, it's very internationally oriented, so for all those who want to go beyond the boundaries of what they've known, this is definitely the place. You'll meet really interesting people who have done awesome things and the option to go abroad is so readily available. Almost 45% of all students go abroad to incredible places. Also, there are great ways to get involved and make a difference in the community (Medford, Boston...) through citizenship and political activism. If you're into getting hooked up with organizations for social betterment, Tufts is your ticket to real life opportunities to make a real difference.
Don't come here if you want to party all the time and aren't serious about studying. Most kids here are passionate and are really into what they do, so be prepared for that mindset.
Campus Life and Social LifeFrats are awesome, and after your first year, the sophomore RA-free dorms are a great place to party. After that--house parties in off-campus housing are incredible. The bar on Tuesday nights is great if you're a big drinker. Basically, everywhere around schook, you'll find people just chilling --theres always something going on.
Intramurals are SO much more competitive than I thought, so that's hot. Also, homecoming is AWESOME!
P.S. My dorm as a freshman in Metcalf hall was HUGE (used to be a triple) and evetything was in walking distance so you can never be too far away from any party (which makes walking home drunk so much easier).
AcademicsInternational relations at Tufts is probabaly the best program out there in this field. So many people are also poltically active, so those departments are really strong. Also everyone must complete 6 semesters of a language, so we are great in languages. Trust me, you will come out of Tufts knowing another language pretty well which is a great tool.
Economics, and social science are great and our arts are really strong too. We're not huge in sciences, but then again, our med school for grads is one of the best in the country. Also, check out Community Health, the coolest department by far. Tufts is really a pioneer in public health/policy.
Student BodyNo typical student and that's sooo great. In New England where soooo many colleges just have the same people (popped collar, pearls and WASPy). Tufts benefits from having people with different backgrounds, socio-economic status and religion, etc. Also, a lot of internationals makes for a great mix in networking with people from all over the world.
In Closing...Great service oppurtunities, great campus (beautiful and such a change from NYC) awesome professors who'll totally go and have coffee with you make Tufts a great school.
