Lots of Northeners
IntroductionMost people that come to Tulane are Northerners, not from around here remotely so the party scene here in a lot of ways, the Tulane scene is kind of restricted to campus or on Broadway, which is right next to campus and it’s not as hard core as the rest of New Orleans. Drinking is a big deal, hard liquor is kind of a big deal over here.
Campus Life and Social LifeI live in one of the freshman dorms, and it’s the all girls dorm, Warren Hall. And I didn’t actually request that. There are 2 all-girl dorms. The men, don’t worry, you’re going to be living with girls. I actually really like this dorm it’s probably the best freshman dorm on campus, it’s really pretty, really nice, huge ceilings, it’s kind of circa around the time when women were expected to stay in the dorm 24/7 so it’s really quite nice.

AcademicsThe Pre-Med courses are really tough, I really don’t like them in comparison to my Latin American Studies classes. Because those are the classes where I have 200 kids in the class at the same time and I personally don’t like that. I’ve heard from other people that they don’t like the quality of teaching they’re getting for example in the Spanish Dept. But I think the academics here are pretty good, it’s what you make of it.
Student BodyIt’s very laid back, that’s the one thing about Tulane it’s extremely laid back. Just people into having a good time and aren’t extremely competitive with each other like at other Academic school. That’s what I really like about Tulane, it’s got a good school and good academics, but it’s not obsessed with being top nerd or whatever.
In Closing...Everyone pretty much drinks. That’s the one thing you might feel a little left out in, if like you’re a teetotaler and you just don’t drink at all you might feel a little left out because a lot of it is nightlife and going out on weekends. Drugs aren’t a huge deal, it’s not like hard drugs or anything like that. It’s pretty much restricted to pot and then maybe some other things.
