Tulane...a different perspective

Rating: 2/5 (1 ratings)
Introduction
If you like to party Tulane is the school for you, but if you prefer a more academic enviornment, you might want to look somewhere else. Tulane is in New Orleans...the party capital of the country. So if you want a college experience filled with on and off campus drinking and partying, come to Tulane -- hands down. If however you're not that in to drinking or an overwhelming party scene avoid moving to the south. It's hard to have a social life if you don't drink and you can't realy get away from the party mentality even if you leave campus. There's a lot of great jazz and a lot of drinking, but if you prefer soda...hold the vodka...Tulane's not the greatest place.

Campus Life and Social Life
EVERYONE is really nice, especially the southerners who show typical southern hospitality. I would say the campus is 50% republican and 50% liberal, but the conservatives tend to be more active. Tulane's campus is very politically apathetic, so if you're looking for hippies, or protests you will not find them here...however you will find crawfish boils and great live music. There are many bars near by campus with "Big Cup" wednesday's at Quills, Thirsty Thursday's at frats, Margarita Friday's...there's pretty much drinking every night of the week. Being the main social scene, good luck having a life if you don't drink.

Academics
There are only TA's for big science classes. Otherwise most classes have less than 25 students and professors really strive to know everyone. Academic can be tough, but are not taken very seriously. At Tulane it's "Work hard, Party harder."

Student Body
They usually say that Tulane is a northern school in the south. At one poin this may have been true, but since Katrina it is not. There are only 936 people in the class of 210, 75% of which are from the south, and many from the greater New Orleans area, and even more from Texas. Otherwise many students are from the northeast, especially Long Island, and come from upper-middle class families.

In Closing...
It's simple. If you want to party come to Tulane, if you want to spend more time in the library go somewhere else.
**Tulane has AMAZING financial aid.
