the real deal from the view of a plebe
IntroductionI would recommend coming here only if you truly want to serve your country and go to war. This place is all about traing young men and women to become leaders in the Army and to fight and kill America's enemies. I came here b/c I want to get a great education and serve my nation in war. If you dont want to see battle then don't come here.
Campus Life and Social Lifesocial life for freshman is pretty much none. As a cow (junior) or firstie (senior) you can go to the cow club or firstie clubs (bars) and have a good time. NYC is less then an hour away so many cadets go there on free weekends. Sports are pretty big here. Army football is huge.

AcademicsSchool is hard. You have to actually work to make good grades. The academy works around a system called the Thayer Method. This is a system where the cadets teach the material to themselves and then go to class with questions about the lesson. Do not expect the teachers to teach you the material, you have to do it on your own. If you dont understand something you can go see your teacher for help. Math and science departments are probably the hardest I would say.
Student BodyNot too much of a social scene. There are no parties, no frats... nothing. There is no drinking or sex in the barracks. When opposite sexes are in the same room the door must be open. During the week you have to be in your room by 1130 pm and lights have to be out by 12am. Weekends are more chill unless you are in trouble, then you have to march hours which basically are a way to punish cadets and waste their time.
In Closing...If you are thinking about coming here, I would def try to get involved in a sport or club. If you do not want to see combat then I would advise going elsewhere.
