Why I love 'Bama
Rating: 1.1/5 (62 ratings)
IntroductionI love my alma mater, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I orginally applied there as a safety school, but went to visit and fell in love. It was geographically close to my home (Memphis, TN) but just far enough away from my roots.
As many SEC schools do, Alabama has a large party reputation, which it lives up to, but the academics are second to none. The communications school is top 10 in the nation and allowed me to get my degree in public relations in May of 2004.
Anyone who is looking for a good time, to score a great education in a smaller, southern college town atmosphere, Bama is for you! ROLL TIDE!
Campus Life and Social LifeSocial Life at Alabama is very centered around the Greek System, being greek I guess I am kinda biased in this aspect. There are many clubs through different colleges that would allow anyone to become involved in virtually anything. They have a water ski team!
The weekends are great, especially football season. NOTHING compares to you being with 80,000 of your closest friends at a home Alabama football game. If you love SEC sports, this is definatley the place for you!
The town itself is smaller, about 100,000 but really growing commercially. makes you appreciate things a big city has, like multiple malls and movie theaters, but has a great college town feeling you wouldnt get anywhere else.

AcademicsThe academic load at Alabama is a sizeable amount, but not over strenuous. It was definatley a lot more than high school, but not something that I couldnt handle.
I enjoyed my time in the Communications school, and never left or switched my major, like many people that I know.
Student BodyEveryone assumes that alabama students are typical frat boys and sorority girls that party all of the time. Granted there is a fair share of those people on campus, but alabama is a diverse university with people from all over the country. i did learn a lot about the state of alabama while i was there, from people that lived in small towns.
Alot of kids i knew were born going to Alabama. I on the other hand was a different story. My parents both attended the University of Tennessee, a rival SEC school, and when i chose to go to Alabama, and then my sister after me, my parents were shocked! but deciding to go to alabama was one of the best decisions i have ever made, i miss it dearly and i know i will hold onto my friends from school forever.
In Closing...ROLL TIDE!!!
