UAA
IntroductionGet your general education classes at UAA to save money and then transfer out of state to fully enjoy what a real college has to offer. You will not experience life to the fullest if you just go to UAA. If you like the outdoors, this school is for you. However, if you like D-1 Athletics, UAA is definitely not the option for you as the athletics are mediocre with only one weekend of D-1 basketball with the Great Alaska Shootout.
Campus Life and Social LifeNothing like a mainstream school, such as University of WA or Washington State. A few intramural sports, no student recreation center, no greek, not too many cool events, not like a normal campus. It has the feel of a community college and for me it reminds me a lot of high school. Also there are a lot of older people (over 25) taking classes in regular freshman classes.

AcademicsIn my experience, the chemistry department has professors that treat you like you're in elementary school. English, math, physics, and aviation have good departments. The workload is good, if you aren't worried about campus life but only about academics then UAA is for you. I have heard that UAA's Aviation program is very good. Freshman classes are big, however they get smaller as you advance further into your major.
Student BodyOutdoorsy, mostly not connected with what students from other schools are. People don't care about school spirit, people are mostly embarassed to wear school clothing unless they are attending a sporting event. It is rare to see UAA clothing any other time.
In Closing...UAA would be good if it had a student recreation center.
