Great Heritage and Spirit
IntroductionI decided to come to the University of Arizona because it’s 2 hours away from home so perfect distance for me and the University is just the best school I felt out of the three Arizona schools for me to just be a part of and I really love the campus atmosphere and the small town community at the big school and just the school spirit and the heritage of the school was amazing – it blew me away when I came and visited.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe heat is hot! It’s really bad but on the other hand we have great winters and people get to wear flip-flops, tank tops and you know, whatever they want to class. I’ve seen girls you know wear their swimsuits with like a tank top over it. Like it is hot. But it’s definitely worth it. It’s really fun and you know – you’re indoors, all of the classrooms have great air-conditioning and so it’s really not that bad. Getting form one place to another it can be hot but for the majority for that the school is in session it’s really not that bad because you’re just outside for a little bit and its really not that bad. We go to school during winter, spring and fall so – you can deal with it. Arizona is ranked below Australia for skin cancer so the sun is really bad – you have to put on sunscreen and protective gear – but its doable. The sun is always out so it’s a nice atmosphere.
AcademicsThe classes are big here but that’s when you’re a freshman, sophomore when you’re taking Gen Ed classes – but I think that they provide enough TA ‘s and enough tutors to be able to make those classes livable and doable. Its really, it’s really shocking when you first get into – when you come from High School and you come from a 20 some person class to a 500 person class – its really astronomical it just kind of take you’re breath away. But you get used to it – it actually allows you more freedom to just come in and maybe not always be out on the you know spot to answer questions or something – you can actually listen to a lecture take it in – find out what you need and the teachers are always accessible so you can always go up top them after class or something or even raise your hands. I feel like a lot of kids really by the end of the semester get comfortable with the class that they feel OK to ask their question in front of all these students and really get involved with the class.
Student BodyIt’s very diverse. I think you’re gonna find a lot of everyone. And I think that’s what’s so great about coming to a large school sis that no matter who you are – you’re gonna find your group of people. It’s just phenomenal – the vast amount of people that are here – there’s 35,000 students, I believe and so its very interesting to just be able to see all these different groups – not only just a few tiny people, they’re really thriving and just clubs and diversity organizations and all sorts of different things so amazing and so established at a university. It’s really great to see the large amount of people we have here and the diversity we have here.
In Closing...There’s a program here called safe rides which gives you rides around campus for free which is great so late at night so if you don’t want to walk or anything you can call them and so its very safe and the university promotes just awareness and lots of different programs to make sure the students are safe and taken care of. They really care here!
