UCLA: Perfect Overall (if you're ready for it)

Rating: 2.8/5 (4 ratings)
Introduction
There are a number of reasons why a young college student would want to go to school here and live here. UCLA is one of the best universities in the world (seriously), our atheletic program has been said to be the best in the nation and you're in one of the best areas of one of the largest cities in the world, Los Angeles. A student who doesn't like meeting people, making friends, living on their own, living in a big place full of diverse people should not apply.

Campus Life and Social Life
The worst part of the social life here, well, i cant really think of one. There are so many student one campus dorms as well as off campus university apartments, all of which are university students. plus off campus private housing in the area is mostly made up of students as well. all the students live in the same area, the dorms, apartments and frat houses. plus there is westwood village. a 5 minute walk south from the dorms that has movies venues and plenty of resturants and shopping. Hollywood is 20 minutes east and the beach is 5 miles west. UCLA's atheletic programs have been said to be the best overall in the country. We hold currently 97 NCAA titles, more than any univeristy in the country and more athletes from UCLA go on to the Olympics or pro than any other college in the country.

Academics
UCLA is known for its excellence in academia. Rated by The Economist and US News World Report to be within the top 15 best universities in the world. Depending on ones major depends the kind of stucture of the class and the work it entails. As a political science major, there is tons of reading, but its information youre actually interested it. yes, a large portion of your time will be reading but in the end it pays off and you still have time to party 3 nights a week. The professors and TAs arent evil like i was told they would be. Although they dont know you on a personal basis as a high school teacher or communicty college professor would, you HAVE to go into their office hours to make an connection and the majority of professors LOVE having students come in and are willing to talk to you.

Student Body
I'm not sure if there is a typical student at UCLA. I guess you have to be motivated and want to do well in school. but its so diverse that thats pretty mcuh what everyone has in common.

In Closing...
I am to UCLA as a transfer student. I was terrified of such a large school so far from home. All of the reading pressures and false things i was told, (how terrible and unfriendly the professors were) were all untrue. And although i do have to work hard, and read and keep myself in check, its all worth it and im still having the time of my life making new friends, exploring a new city and learning a whole hell of a lot. Ive only been here for 1 quarter but i already realize that if i had the chance, i woudlnt be attending anywhere else.
